Family Preservation Initiative Program
Administered by UACC
Program Overview
The Family Preservation Initiative Program is designed to provide essential support services to families experiencing financial hardship. Assistance is available for emergency heating and cooling, food insecurity, major appliance repair or replacement, pest control, and lice treatment.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for assistance, applicants must:

Demonstrate financial need through appropriate documentation.

Meet specific verification requirements based on the requested service.

Enroll, attend, and successfully complete the Nana B. Ray Course.

(failure to complete the course requirement will make you ineligible for future assistance through any of our programs)
Available Services
1. Emergency Heating & Cooling Assistance
Purpose: Support families experiencing central heating or air conditioning failure.
Services Provided:
-
Temporary loaner AC/heater units are available for a specified period.
-
Financial assistance may be provided to help repair the primary HVAC system.
-
A UACC inspector will verify the condition of the repaired unit before retrieving the loaner unit.
Program Requirements:
-
Loaner units must be returned in working condition.
-
If a loaner unit is returned damaged or nonfunctional, the family may not be eligible for future loaner assistance.
2. Food Bank Assistance
Purpose: Provide families with access to food resources.
Services Provided:
-
Guidance on the most suitable food banks in the area.
-
Transportation assistance for families unable to pick up food donations independently.
Program Requirements:
-
Families are eligible for food bank assistance once per month.
-
Families may not receive food from multiple food banks within the same month.
-
UACC transportation assistance is only available if the family has not already accessed food bank services elsewhere during the same month.
3. Major Appliance Repair or Replacement
Purpose: Assist families in repairing or replacing essential household appliances.
Services Provided:

UACC coordinates with a licensed repair company to assess the appliance and provide an estimate.

Financial assistance may be available to cover repair or replacement costs.
4. Pest Control Assistance
Purpose: Address household pest infestations through professional extermination services or over-the-counter treatments.
Services Provided:

Information on available extermination services.

UACC-funded extermination services through a contracted provider or over-the-counter treatment options.

Coverage for two follow-up treatments to ensure infestation control.
Program Requirements:

Families must prepare the home before treatment and complete all required cleaning afterward.

A UACC representative will schedule an appointment with the family to conduct a pre-treatment and post-treatment home walk-through.
5. Lice Treatment Program
Purpose: Provide professional lice treatment services for families in need.
Services Provided:

UACC partners with local salons to offer lice removal services in a designated treatment area.

Families receive a UACC-issued certificate covering the cost of treatment, along with lice treatment shampoo and supplies.

Families are scheduled for two appointments:

Initial lice treatment session
-
Follow-up combing session (if needed)

Program Requirements:
-
Partner salons agree to accept UACC-issued certificates and submit them monthly for reimbursement.

UACC works with the local school board to ensure compliance with return-to-school requirements.
-
Salons must follow school board guidelines and accept UACC certification for school clearance.
Program Administration & Compliance

All services are subject to availability and funding.
-
UACC reserves the right to modify program guidelines as necessary.

Families who fail to comply with program requirements may be deemed ineligible for future assistance.
